Badshot Lea Sunday 4th May 2008
Match Result - Won
After receiving a bye into round 2 of the National Village Cup, Blewbury and Upton cricket club faced Badshot Lea. Badshot Lea won the toss and elected to bat on a slow and damp wicket, a result of the persistant rain the week before. Colin Allen opened the bowling and continued his excellent early season form by taking 4 wickts for 6 runs in a brilliant opening spell. He was superbly supported by the youngish Jamie Fraser, who took 3 for 12. Two of which were excellent return catches. The only bowling change of the first half of the game saw Ben Srange come on to replace Jamie and, unsuprisingly, he was instantly in the wickets. Taking 2 for 10 in his 4.2 overs. The remaining wicket came from a run out by the cat like Ed Fraser in the deep. Given the sat that none of the 11 Bashot lea batsman managed double figures it will come as no surprise that the total was a lowly 31.
After another excellent tea (provided by Too Good for Wednesdays) Blewbury set about their task gracefully. The 31 runs to win were scored within 16 balls, with John Barrett adding 12 off very few deliveries and Tom Wigley jnr scoring 20. The innings was without major incident and Blewbury won comfortably with 10 wickets to spare.
