Hendred Sunday 27th April 2008
Match Result - Lost
With the first two games of the season called off, Blewbury managed to get its first game of the 2008 underway at East Hendred. Blewbury batted first with debutant Will Fish opening the batting alongside Ed Wagner. Sadly the opening partnership did not last long as Fish struggled with low bounce not seen in the nets and being bowled for 2. In fact most batsmen experienced the same problem, with the notable exception of a fifty from Colin Allen, including a couple of sixes smashed out of the ground. Blewbury end up 166-9 and went in to enjoy the excellent tea!
With the treat of rain coming down Hendred decided to make a brisk start. Blewbury needed early wickets to slow them down but lacked a few strike bowlers. Christian Vechionnie kept it tight at one end for a while, but it was an inspired captaincy decision to bring on Hugh Fraser that caused the first break through. However, all that could save Blewbury now was the rain, notably before it was all rapped up James Thwaites managed a tidy wicket maiden over. Sadly in dark and gloomy conditions Hendred knocked off the winning runs with eight wickets left.
