Kingston Bagpuize - Sunday 1st June 2008

Match Result - Won

On an overcast muggy day Blewbury put in a solid performance against a young weak Kingston Bagpuize XI to win by 158 runs (40 over match).

After winning the toss and electing to bat, we were soon down one wicket in the early overs after one ball sneaked through Ed Wagner to remove his bails. Despite this early departure, Tom Wigley and James Barrett put us in a comfortable position by drinks at 20 overs, 99 for 1. Not long after drinks, James was caught off a bad ball soon after passing his 50 mark (56 total), bringing in Jamie Fraser to open up his arms. Tom Wigley made a solid 71 before being caught. Ben Strange made a quick fire 34, in support of Jamie Fraser who, despite being given not out stumped on 48, made his way to a well deserved 50 not out.

With a steep target of 239 to win, Kingston Bagpuize never really looked like worrying the tight bowling attack. Only bad light or rain would have saved them on the day. Frasers father (Hugh) and son (Ed) opened the bowling and kept the run rate down, whilst knocking off their first few batsmen. Notably, Ed Fraser ended with figures of 5 overs, 3 wickets for 4 runs, and almost claimed his first hat-trick if only his younger brother Jamie had held onto a relatively easy catch! The wickets tumbled, with Wagner, Thwaites (Jnr), Barrett (James) and Tom Wigley Jnr (3 wickets) all getting in on the action, claiming the remainder of the wickets.

A relatively easy win for Blewbury, knocking Kingston Bapgpuize over for 80 runs off about 30 overs. A slow match, a dark evening, but a good win for Blewbury.

Man of the Match, Tom Wigley
